Fund Prof. Plamen Tsvetkov
Plamen Simeonov Tsvetkov was born on August 8, 1951 in Berlin, Germany. He received his secondary education in Sofia. In 1976 he graduated from Sofia University majoring in history. His thesis topic was "Projects for the Balkan Federation from the Bulgarian Revival to the First World War". Four years later, in 1980 he defended his dissertation at Moscow State University. From 1981 to 2000 he worked at the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and in the period 1995-2000 he headed the section "History of the World and International Relations in Modern and Post Modern Times". In 1999 he became a "doctor of historical sciences".
He specialized in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the United States (with Fulbright Scholarship) and the United Kingdom.
Plamen Tsvetkov's path as a teacher began in 1987 at the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures in Sofia. He has been a Full Professor of New and Recent General History in the New Bulgarian University since 2002. From the courses he has read there in the period 1994–2015, we should mention: “Bolshevism, National Socialism, Fascism”, “Monarchs in the New Bulgarian History”, “History of the Modern World”, “National origin and national consciousness”, "The Anglo-American Historical Experience" (in English), "The Modernization and Formation of Nation-States in Southeastern Europe", "International Relations in the Twentieth Century", etc.
He was a guest lecturer at various universities in the USA, Hungary and Italy.
His bibliography includes 25 monographs, more than 90 scientific studies and articles, and more than 350 popular and non-fiction publications in the mass media. The main topics covered in his scientific work are related to the diplomatic and political history of the world, Europe and the Balkans in the twentieth century, problems of national identity, totalitarian regimes and democracy, the origin of the Bulgarians, World War II, etc.
Plamen Tsvetkov died in Sofia on November 3, 2015.
In April 2016, Plamen Tsvetkov's heirs - his wife Prof. Raya Zaimova, their daughter and their two sons - donated the personal library and archive of the Professor at the New Bulgarian University.
In 2016, a special site was created at the Department of History, which aims to promote the personality and work of Prof. Plamen Tsvetkov. As part of this site, a scholarship fund was established, named after Prof. Tsvetkov. It is intended for students, doctoral students and young researchers whose studies are in the field of historical disciplines.
